July is the sweet spot for summer flexibility: it's peak season but carries the highest last-minute rate of the year at 21.6%, meaning cancellations do surface if you're monitoring.

Plaskett Creek sits directly off Highway 1, roughly 60 miles south of Carmel, with no shuttle requirement — you drive yourself in and out year-round. The coastal highway can be slow and subject to closures from landslides, particularly in winter and spring, so check Caltrans road conditions before departure. Sand Dollar Beach is a short walk from camp, and most Big Sur attractions north of the campground require additional driving on the famously winding two-lane highway.

Plaskett Creek requires a valid Adventure Pass or National Forest Recreation Pass for day use, and a nightly camping fee applies for overnight stays through Recreation.gov — confirm current rates at time of booking as Forest Service fees are subject to change. The America the Beautiful Interagency Annual Pass ($80) covers the entrance/day-use requirement for Los Padres National Forest and is worth it if you're visiting multiple federal lands in the same year. There are no hookup fees since the campground has no electrical infrastructure.

The maximum stay is 14 days, and with only 46 sites, the campground fills fast on Friday and Saturday nights — Saturday demand is rated very high in the reservation data. Cell service availability is not confirmed for this location, so download offline maps and any recreation information before leaving town; the nearest services are in the small community of Gorda or further north toward Big Sur village. Bring all supplies you'll need, as the remote stretch of Highway 1 near Plaskett Creek has very limited resupply options.
