Bryce Canyon National Park sits at 8,000 feet on the edge of the Colorado Plateau, offering front-row access to the world's largest concentration of hoodoos and some of the darkest night skies in the American Southwest. Both campgrounds sit within walking distance of Sunrise and Sunset Points, making this one of the most coveted camping addresses in the national park system. Demand is relentless — zero site-nights are available across all 200 sites in the next 14 days, and that is not unusual.
We analyzed 19,424 reservations across Sunset and North Campgrounds to map exactly when sites open, who books them, and when cancellations hit.

RV campers with larger rigs and anyone who wants the most central location in the park. The 60-foot vehicle maximum and larger reservation volume make this the go-to for serious planners who book months out.
North Campground's 98 sites — 51 RV nonelectric and 47 tent-only — are positioned directly adjacent to the Visitor Center, making it the most walkable campground in the park for accessing the rim trail and the shuttle system. The 60-foot vehicle maximum is the key differentiator: it's the only Bryce Canyon campground that accommodates the largest Class A motorhomes and fifth-wheel setups. Booking behavior here is dramatically more planned than at Sunset: only 13.3%–22.0% of reservations are last-minute across peak months, while 19.6%–25.8% are locked in 6+ months ahead. September is the hardest month here, with just 13.3% last-minute and 25.8% booked far in advance. If you're driving a long rig or targeting a specific fall date, North Campground requires a long-range planning mindset — last-minute luck is a much thinner margin than at Sunset.

August offers the best odds for a last-minute site, with 32.4% of reservations made within a week of arrival across both campgrounds. June and July are the highest-volume months with 4,280 and 4,207 reservations respectively — expect the campground to be full nearly every night. October delivers the most solitude and the sharpest fall light, but it is paradoxically the hardest month to book: only 21.8% of October reservations are last-minute, and 22.2% are claimed six months or more in advance.
The Bryce Canyon Shuttle is required from March through November, and both campgrounds are served stops on the route, eliminating the need to drive to individual viewpoints during peak season. Outside the shuttle season, private vehicles can access the 18-mile scenic drive to Rainbow Point. There are no dirt or high-clearance roads required to reach either campground — both are on paved park roads — but the 40-foot vehicle limit at Sunset versus the 60-foot limit at North is a real constraint for large rigs.
Bryce Canyon charges $35 per vehicle for a 7-day entrance pass. Nightly camping fees apply on top of the entrance fee for both Sunset and North Campgrounds; neither campground offers hookups, so there are no additional electric site premiums. The America the Beautiful Annual Pass ($80) covers the entrance fee and is worth the math if you visit more than two national parks in a year — it does not cover the nightly camping fee itself.
Both campgrounds enforce a 14-day maximum stay. The park sits at approximately 8,000 feet elevation, so temperatures drop sharply at night even in summer — bring layers even for July trips. The nearest full-service town is Tropic, Utah, roughly 11 miles from the park entrance, with limited supplies; Panguitch is about 25 miles away and offers more options. Cell service inside the park is unreliable, so download offline maps and your reservation confirmation before you arrive.
