Better availability with same amenities and beach access
Visit May through October for the best weather conditions, with September and October offering warm days and fewer crowds. Summer months bring peak demand and cooler coastal temperatures due to marine layer, while spring and fall provide clearer skies and more comfortable camping conditions. Winter camping is possible but expect rain and wind.
The park is accessible via Highway 1 south of Santa Cruz, with the main entrance at 201 Sunset Beach Road in Watsonville. All campgrounds are within walking distance of beach access points, and the park is compact enough to navigate easily on foot. No shuttle service is available, so personal vehicles are necessary for arrival and any off-site excursions.
Camping fees start at $35 per night for individual sites, with the group area priced at $335 per night. Entrance fees are included with camping reservations, and California State Parks annual passes provide no additional discount on camping fees. Reservations are made through ReserveCalifornia.com, and booking fees apply to all reservations.
All campgrounds lack electrical hookups, so bring portable power sources for electronics. The coastal location means temperatures can drop significantly at night even in summer, requiring warm sleeping gear. Maximum vehicle lengths of 31 feet (18 feet for group area) are strictly enforced, and sites have pull-through access but limited maneuvering space for large RVs.
